Assault or Combat RIfle Optics Weapon Sights

I Installed the same two components on my Colt AR15, and that success prompted me to repeat this purchase for my new Ruger SR762. As a firearm intended for mid range involvements the family of EO Tech Optics is without equal. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for easy, swift target acquisition. Amazon.com is my "go to source" for a myriad of considerations, fifteen years and counting.

100% pleased with this setup on my rifle. Installing the system only takes a few seconds. Zeroing the sights is very easy. The reticle is very nice for quick target acquisition at short and medium range. I have and would highly recommend this product to any shooter.

XPS2-0 Weapon Sights

XPS2-0 Weapon Sights

I own a few EOTech sights so I was familiar with their operation and characteristics before buying this one. For those folks who are also familiar with the operation of these sights I will curtail my review to the unique features of the XPS2-0 to "cut to the chase". The XPS2-0 is the standard sight picture model that has the dot with outer ring. The other two models (the XPS2-1 and 2-2) have different sight pictures (which are "just the dot, no ring" and drop compensated dots with ring). I'm a traditionalist so I always get the "standard" EOTech sight picture models.

The big "feature" of this sight compared to other EOTechs is the cross-mounted single CR123 battery compartment. EOTech sights have had issues in the past with the longitudinally mounted batteries. This new cross-mount design is supposed to rectify those issues. I honestly have not shot this sight enough yet to encounter any failures, so if that is a result of the alternate design or simply a short lifespan so far I do not know. Suffice it to say the nature of the issues with the old sights cannot occur on this model.

The second big "feature" of this sight compared to other EOTechs is it's size and height. This is one of the smallest sights EOTech makes as well as one of the shortest. I have this sight mounted on my AR15 SBR. The easiest way to describe it's size is that mine is mounted directly over my ejection port and the sight is as long as the port cover on the top rail. This sight sits low so your iron sights (in my case an LMT A2 rear and a standard front sight post) lie right in the middle of the EOTech field of view. Other EOTech sights sit higher and offer what is known as 1/3 co-witness, meaning your iron sights align low in the sight picture. This allows you to use the sight "above" your BUIS or irons.

I am an avid shooter and I own numerous red-dot-sights for both rifles and pistols. For various reasons I decided to purchase the EOTech XPS2-0. Most EOTech sights, this one included, feature a circle-dot reticle: a 65 MOA circle with a 1 MOA dot in the center. I had initially been skeptical of the reticle type that the EOTech uses. I worried that it would be more distracting than the simple "red dot" reticle that most sights of this type use. After considerable use, I am now a believer in the EOTech reticle. Many in the military prefer the EOTech reticle because it makes fast target acquisition easier -- the shooter does not have to "hunt around" to find the reticle when trying to acquire and shoot the target. Further, the EOTech sight is very high-quality, and I have found that the reticle does not obscure the target or in any way interfere with precision shooting. The one MOA center dot is ideal for precision shooting while the 65 MOA circle aids in fast target acquisition. As with all red-dot-sights, the trick is to focus one's eye on the target, not the reticle. Through the magic of holographics, the reticle will then be in focus anyway, along with the target, making for an ideal sight picture. (A common error that shooters make with red-dot-sights is to focus their shooting eye on the reticle rather than the target.) The EOTech XPS2-0 is the only sight I have ever used in which it seemed natural to keep both eyes open while shooting. I am a shooter who otherwise has shot rifles and pisols with my left eye closed for the past 40 years.
  • Compact, lightweight holographic weapon sight with 1x magnification
  • Uses laser light to illuminate holographic red reticle projected on target plane
  • Improves target acquisition, boosts accuracy, and increases control
  • Leaves rail space for rear iron sights, magnifiers, and other tools
  • Requires 123 lithium battery; measures 3.5 x 2.4 x 2 inches (W x H x D)

Weapon Sights Fantastic 1x red dot optic with insane battery life and an included mount

Weapon Sights Fantastic 1x red dot optic with insane battery life and an included mount

You've probably read some of the other reviews, so mine will probably not surprise you...but perhaps I can offer a little something different, including how much you really should be paying.

What you get:

- A fantastic red dot optic with a wide range of adjustable levels
- 30mm tube for quick target acquisition
- Built-in flip covers that you can work with one finger...and an ability to leave both closed to use the optic with both eyes open
- Waterproof to 150 feet depth
- Included mount that allows quick mounting/unmounting...while maintaining zero
- INSANE battery life

I cannot understate the battery life. Many less expensive red dot optics that are supposedly competitors have battery life rated in the range of hundreds of hours. For example, the Vortex Strikefire at max brightness (dimmer than PRO at max brightness) is rated at 130 hours. The PRO is rated at 30,000 hours at a brightness level 7 (of 10). Frankly, this is the reason that I normally only consider the Aimpoint line. I want it to work...and at 30,000 hours, you don't even turn it off and it works for years.

Of course, there are alternatives in the Aimpoint line, including the much lighter and smaller T1 and H1 models, both of which have longer rated battery life....and they are also excellent options. That said, I went with the PRO, because:

- It includes a mount
- It is far less expensive
- I find that the PRO's flip up covers are far easier to operate when I am ADS
- The larger tube makes quick target acquisition a bit easier for me

The cost is also not a small issue. The T1 and H1 retail for close to $600...without a mount...although LaRue has some great bundled mounts available for only slightly over $600.
